Tight security for T-20I international in Visakhapatnam

Visakhapatnam: Extensive security measures have been put in place for the much-awaited international T-20 cricket match between India and Australia on Thursday at the Madhuravada Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam.

City police under the vigilant supervision of commissioner A. Ravi Shankar have taken all measures to ensure smooth conduct of the T20 match, which will attract considerable attention from viewers not only at the stadium but throughout India.

Police made their presence felt from the moment players arrived at the airport and moved on to their designated hotels.

The stadium has been divided into sectors with three levels of security, extending to different storeys and rooftops. There are 2,000 officials and staff to ensure that the four-hour cricket spectacle passes off smoothly.

India will be looking to avenge their defeat in the recent ICC World Cup at the hands of Australia.

Authorities have introduced several security features on the match tickets. Genuine tickets will display a green colour at the torn edge, a gold security thread when held against light and a barcode that will produce music on scanning.

Spectators have been cautioned against purchasing colour photocopies of tickets from unknown individuals.

Spectators will not be allowed to carry food items and water bottles into the stadium. They will be made available within the stadium premises, which will be under thorough surveillance all over.

The match is scheduled from 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., with spectators being allowed entry from 4 pm onwards. Anticipating a large crowd, police have outlined various routes that motorists will have to take. Spectators will also be directed into occupying their seats to ensure a seamless experience for all.
