Kartheeka Vanabhojanalu gains political colour

Khammam: The Kartheeka Masa Vanabhojanalu being organised by various communities turned out to be a ridiculous affair in Khammam district. All communities except the Nayee Brahmin caste involved party leaders in their programmes, giving the event a political colour.

Nayee Brahmins met and resolved not to invite any political leader and not to take donations from them. The community as usual felicitated the elders of their caste.

Organising secretary of Nayee Brahmin Welfare Society N Chandrasekhar said, “This is a sacred affair and it should enhance the bond between those of our caste. Involving political leaders will hurt the sacred concept behind this event. Our concern is purely the welfare of our community.”

The mango groves in a radius of 20-km were seen as ‘hungama’ for the last 15 days with the Karthika Maasa Vanabhojanalu. Almost all communities perform Satyanarayna Vratham and other pooja to mark this occasion.

The vanabhojanalu of Brahmin, Kamma, Munnur Kapu, Reddy, Arya Vysya, Mudiraj, Goud and Yadav communities were held as a grand gala. Film and devotional songs through DJ sets, delicious dishes and cultural programmes formed part of these programs.

Transport minister Ajay Kumar was the chief guest for almost all the Vanabhojanalu. He stressed at every meeting, “I won the 2018 assembly elections with your blessings.”

Minister for BC welfare and civil supplies Gangula Kamalakar and Rajya Sabha MP V Ravichandra were present at the Munnuru Kapu Vana Samaradhana. Former minister Tummala Nageswara Rao, MP Nama Nageswara Rao and minister Ajay Kumar attended the Kamma caste gathering as its chief guests.

Brahmin leaders, divided into two groups, organised the programmes separately. Former minister PV Prabhakara Rao and Nama Nageswara Rao were chief guests at one meeting of Brahmins and minister Ajay Kumar at another Vanabhojanam.

Social activist Siva Kumar said, “The organisers should achieve harmony among communities by felicitating the intellectuals of other castes by way of demonstration of fraternity.”
