Infrastructure projects to ease Chennai traffic
Chennai: Chennai may have seen less congested traffic movements by next year as four major infrastructure projects are now gaining momentum.
Grade separators at the Anna Arch, Vadapalani and Rettai Eri are nearing completion and the dialogue between the State and Centre on the much delayed Chennai port–Maduravoyal elevated corridor is to resume shortly, a highly placed official said.
The Chennai Corporation had also directed its bus route road departments to ensure that the corporation extends its logistical support in the areas where the new grade separators are coming up by providing approach roads and adequate streetlights in the connecting roads maintained by the civic body.
The work on the long awaited flyovers at Anna Arch and Vadapalani junctions are expected to be completed by this month end and its inauguration date would depend on the government, the official source said.
Meanwhile, motorists and local residents are demanding that the flyovers be inaugurated at the earliest. “Traffic is a major problem in the city and the State should ensure that the completed projects are thrown open for traffic at the earliest”, said civic activist Aarani Sreenivasan.
The slow pace of ongoing metro rail project along the Poonamalee high road also needs an early completion as it is a big strain on motorists plying between Koyambedu and Chennai Central.
