Crime Branch begins probe in Shamna Tasnim case
KOCHI: The Crime Branch has started investigation into the death of medico Shamna Tasnim at Ernakulam Government Medical College (EMC) under unnatural circumstances and a CB team questioned officials at the EMC and verified records and collected evidence in this regard on Monday. Crime Branch SP Mr Yatish Chandra who is heading the team told DC that the investigation has been started and all aspects of the case will be looked into to arrive at a conclusion in the case.
“However, the report of the state medical board to which the case has been referred to now is crucial in determining medical negligence in the case. It is the technical side of the case. We are also awaiting the conclusion of the medical board,” he said. The state medical board is set to make its sitting on November 24.
Yatish Chandra said that the team will also look into the allegations of discrepancies between the nurses’ records and the doctors’ records at the EMC and also the allegation that Shamna who was already dead at EMC was taken to Rajagiri Hospital in a bid by the officials at the EMC to escape blame and there was a collusion between the officials of EMC and Rajagiri in this. He also said that the DGP is posted about the progress in the investigation regularly.
Meanwhile the Director of Health Services Dr Remla Beevi said that the suspension of the PG doctor Bino Jose has been withdrawn as his negligence in the case could not be proved. “Moreover the PG Students Grievance Redressal Committee also recommended the same. However, he will have to make up for the time lost,” the DME said and added that the Joint DME Dr K Sreekumari is currently not conducting any detailed investigation into the death of Shamna. “We have done our job and it is for the government to do the further investigation,” she added.
