Bengaluru court refuses stay in Oommen Chandy case
Bengaluru: Former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy suffered a further setback on Monday, as the city court here on Monday refused to stay its earlier order directing him along with five others, to pay Rs 1.6 crore to businessman M K Kuruvilla in connection with Solar scam in Kerala. Mr Chandy had approached the Civil and Sessions Court, seeking to stay its earlier order, on the grounds that the court had not heard his version and it was an ex parte order. Mr B N Jayadeva, advocate for Mr Kuruvilla, sad: “Mr Chandy had challenged the order of the court directing him to play his client Rs 1.6 crore along with five others as part of refund of money invested by the businessman for implementing solar energy projects. The court has rejected his plea to stay its earlier order.”
“Six defendants, including Mr Chandy and SCOSSA Educational Consultants Private Limited, shall pay the decretal sum Rs 1,60,85,700 to the plaintiff (Kuruvilla) with current and future interest at 12 per cent per annum and they jointly and severally liable to pay the sum and shall satisfy the decree within six months from the date of decree, failing which plaintiff is entitled to recover the decretal sum from the defendants, in accordance with law,” court had order. Kuruvilla had approached the court seeking return of his money deposited from SCOSSA Educational Consultants Private Limited, for setting up a solar power project in Kerala.
