No Bathukamma At GHMC: VHP

Hyderabad: Members of the Telangana Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) on Saturday alleged that the GHMC was not celebrating the Bathukamma festival under the guise of the model code of conduct (MCC). Some parishad activists went to the GHMC head office on Saturday and demanded that the officials make arrangements for the festival including setting up artificial ponds.

“If Bathukamma festival is not being celebrated because of election code, why has money been spent by the GHMC on Bathukamma advertisements displayed on roads,” asked Ravinuthala Shashidhar, joint secretary of T-VHP said.

An official said the mayor was not in the city and other members of the council did not take the initiative to celebrate the festival. “Following this, the annual Bathukamma programme was not held this year,” the official said.
