High Court tells Osmania University, state to furnish details about land grab
Hyderabad: Osmania University authorities told the High Court here on Thursday that one of its lands, measuring around 3,296 sq. yds, was fraudulently grabbed by one Tulasi cooperative housing society, which also deceitfully sold it to nine individuals by earmarking separate plots for each of them.
The university and the state government submitted their contention to the High Court in a taken up PIL, based on a letter forwarded by a varsity scholar, Dr. Poladi Ramana Rao, who requested the court to protect their lands.
Appearing for the university and state government, advocate-general BS Prasad submitted that Tulasi cooperative housing society had bought 4,800 square yards of adjacent land in 1976. A legal dispute erupted over the title between Osmania University and Tulasi society. Based on the surveyor’s report, the court had declared that the land belongs to the society. The society divided the land into 14 equal parts and sold 13 plots to different persons, while earmarking one plot for setting up a park. That apart, the society grabbed another 3,296 sq. yds. of OU land and had sold it to nine people.
The High Court gave six weeks time to the university and the state government to file full details and maps of the land grabbed by the Society and what action it sought against the society. The advocate-general submitted that a police complaint was lodged on August 14 last year. The court sought full details of actions initiated by them to protect the land.
