Bengaluru: Engg student jumps off college building
Bengaluru: Harshavardhan, a fourth-year student of Amrutha College of Engineering, jumped from the college building and ended his life. Some students told the police that harassment by the college management is the reason behind Harshavardhan’s suicide.
Harshavardhan was in the fourth year of Electronic Communication. He had managed to get a campus placement with an annual salary of Rs 14 lakh. But the offer letter was allegedly torn apart in front of him. Devastated, Harsha took the extreme step, sources said.
It is alleged that Harsha and his friends had protested against mismanagement at the college hostel. The management had suspended four students in September for one year.
Following the suicide, protests erupted on the college premises with angry students blaming the management. The students alleged that the management subjected Harsha to harassment and demanded justice for their friend.
Amrita School of Engineering is one of many institutions run by Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham. The Parappana Agrahara police registered a case under Section 306 (abetment of suicide) and Section 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence, or giving false information) against the college management.
