TIRUPATI: An 18-month-old boy died after accidentally falling into a water-filled pit at an under-construction building in Haripuram Colony in Tirupati on Monday.
The toddler, identified as Abhi, was the son of migrant workers from Madhya Pradesh. He was playing near the lift installation site when he slipped into the pit. His parents found him in the pit and rushed him to the S.V.R. Ruia Government General Hospital, where he was declared brought dead.
Police said that the pit, which was in the process of being dug for lift installation, had collected water, creating a deceptive hazard. Abhi slipped into the pit and drowned.
The body of the toddler was shifted to Ruia Hospital’s mortuary for further procedures. Police have registered a case and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the boy's death.
