Hyderabad Metro Rail working on plan to provide last-mile connectivity

HMRL authorities said 100 vehicles, including two wheelers, keyless vehicles and gearless scooters were lying idle at various stations

HYDERABAD: Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) has been waiting for patrons to avail the last mile connectivity it has provided at key metro stations on the three corridors of the metro rail.

HMRL authorities have pointed out that 100 vehicles, including two wheelers, keyless vehicles and gearless scooters have been lying idle at Miyapur, Nagole and Bharat Nagar stations, apart from 60 four-wheelers at Nagole and Irrum Manzil, 50 two-wheelers at Malakpet, and 100 two wheelers at LB Nagar, Ameerpet, Yousufguda and Hi-Tec City.
Metro officials say agencies operating at various metro stations have sufficient vehicles, but patrons are not availing the facility.

The Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority (UMTA) has also embarked on a pilot study for first and last-mile connectivity at busy metro stations. Later, the same facilities would be extended to all stations. The authority has already conducted pilot studies at LB Nagar, Nagole, Secunderabad East, Ameerpet, Miyapur and Raidurg metro stations in this regard.

UMTA officials will soon meet stakeholders concerned, including TSRTC, HMRL, South Central Railway, Roads and Buildings department, HMDA, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation and Finance department to take a final call on providing the first and last-mile connectivity.

The nodal agency will focus on providing RTC, MMTS or Setwin services for ensuring connectivity to areas within 2-km radius from the designated stations.
