Hyderabad: A 30-year-old man from the city was arrested by Neredmet police on charges of rape and also cheating his girlfriend. The accused, who met the victim during his Class X board examinations, continued the friendship and promised to marry her, said the police.
The victim, 30, a resident of Neredmet had met one G. Srikanth of Old Safilguda in 2009, when she was attending Class X board examinations at a school in the city. They became friends and both kept in touch by talking over the phone and meeting personally.
Seven years later, Srikanth reportedly proposed to her and she accepted. Since then, their intimacy developed and Srikanth, who works in a private firm in the city, used to also take the woman’s salary for his expenses. A year ago, he went to the woman's house and raped her, and promised to marry her soon. However, he postponed the marriage and avoided the woman. Realising that she was cheated, the victim lodged a complaint with the police.
Neredmet inspector A. Narsimha Swamy said that a case was booked against the accused Srikanth on charges of rape and cheating and he was arrested and remanded to the judicial custody on Wednesday.
