Every year, the BBMP takes on the task of fogging the city. After the dengue outbreak, the civic body says it the fogging is now focussed on areas that have recorded a higher number of cases. Citizens, however, rightly demand that the entire city is sprayed and sanitised.
“We understand that the areas where more cases have been reported need to be a priority, but what about all the other areas? We are all scared, we all want to keep mosquitoes away,” says Rajanna, a resident of Koramangala. “We demand that the BBMP do its fogging across the city.” Residents add that they haven’t spotted the BBMP fogging any time in the recent past.
“BBMP should be taking up its fogging work in areas adjacent to stormwater drains, parks and places where there is water stagnation. But we haven’t seen this happen at all,” says Vanitha, a home-maker who lives near Sirsi Circle.
A BBMP official attached to the health wing maintains that they are doing their best. “We don’t have the manpower to conduct fogging work across the city. As many of the people who do it have retired, we need more staff,” he said....
