Bengaluru: Power cuts cripple industries, profits hit

Bescom officials claim that this is because they are witnessing frequent feeder faults and transformer failures during the rains.

Bengaluru: The recent spell of wet weather has led to frequent power cuts, which are not only affecting the residents, but even industrialists are complaining of production losses.

Bescom officials claim that this is because they are witnessing frequent feeder faults and transformer failures during the rains.

Mahesh Kumar, who owns a cardboard manufacturing unit in Peenya Industrial area, expressed his displeasure against frequent power cuts and BBMP’s inability to find a lasting solution.

He said, “For the past one week, there have been numerous power cuts in a day, which is hampering our business. There is no one to question the Bescom and they have become inefficient. For the past 10 days, we have lost over `2 lakh business just due to the power cuts. Whenever there is power disruption, the machine stops and the manufacturing process halts, resulting in loss in raw materials.”

“We should start penalising the Bescom for every power cut like how they penalise us when we delay paying the bill,” fumed Kumar.

A manager of polymer unit in Nelamangala also complained about the power cuts. He said that they have no forum to go and address their problems, as the Bescom is not responsive and do not care about anything.

He insisted that there should be a forum where they can talk about the problems related to power cuts, as this always happens during the monsoon.

The city residents are fuming against Bescom over power cuts. Sushma Nagraj, a techie and a resident of Hennur, said that she feels like living in the Stone Age, as a slight drizzle will leave them without power for more than two hours.

She added, “It is pathetic how our city has been reduced to. The roads are in bad shape, garbage all over and the power cut is added to the list. We see developments in all aspects, but the government is failing to fix such basic things, which is the most necessary for a City to run.”
