Teachers have to pass Centre's test: Prakash Javadekar

The minister said that Kendriya Vidyalayas in Kerala showed more quality than the Kendriya Vidyalayas in other states.

KOCHI: Union Minister for Human Resource Development Prakash Javadekar on Saturday said that all teachers from primary level will have to pass within two years the elementary training course devised by the ministry for ensuring quality. September 15 is the last date to register for the online course set on the Swayam platform. Launching the ‘Swasth Bachche, Swasth Bharat’ Programme, an initiative of Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan to prepare a physical health and fitness profile card for more than 12 lakh Kendriya Vidyalaya students, at the Kendrya Vidyalaya, NAD, Aluva, here Mr Javadekar said the Centre was aiming at strengthening the education sector in the country through the empowerment of general education.

He said that in due course the Swasth Bachche, Swasth Bharat initiative will be spread to Navodaya and CBSE and state syllabus schools. He also said that yoga will be promoted in schools for the physical and mental wellness of students. The minister said that Kendriya Vidyalayas in Kerala showed more quality than the Kendriya Vidyalayas in other states. Mr Javadekar interacted with students on the occasion.

Swasth Bachche, Swasth Bharat programme will provide a comprehensive and inclusive report card for children covering all age groups and children of different abilities. Making students, teachers and parents aware about the importance of good health and fitness and encouraging 60 minutes of play each day are the objectives of the programme. Swasth Bachche, Swasth Bharat programme also intends to imbibe values of Olympics and Paralympics amongst students. Making physical activity and recreational games an integral part of learning process, motivating potentially outstanding performers in various games are also the objectives of the programme.
