KANNUR: The Taliparamba police will on Tuesday seek the custody of K.V. Shylaja, lawyer, and Krishna Kumar, her husband, who were remanded in judicial custody for 14 days by the Payyannur judicial first class magistrate court last week. They had been charged with financial misappropriation to acquire the wealth of a deceased man. Taliparamba DySP K.V. Venugopalan told DC that the couple would be interrogated to find out the missing links in the case. They had allegedly conned a huge amount of money in the name of the late Balakrishnan of Taliparamba.
Shylaja’s sister Janaki, 72, was arrested on August 1 and released on bail. She had wrongly claimed to be the wife of Balakrishnan and received his family pension from 2011 onward. Shylaja is suspected to be the brain behind the fraud. Janaki had availed of a family pension of Rs 20,000 per month from 2011 and received Rs 66,000 from one bank. Property worth Rs 19.5 lakh was transferred in her name along with six acres of land. The couple had surrendered before the DySP office on Friday.
