Amit Shah to flag off Janaraksha Yatra
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: BJP national president Amit Shah will flag off state president Kummanam Rajasekharan’s Janaraksha Yatra from Payyannur on September 7. The slogan of the yatra aimed against jihad and the alleged CPM violence is, ‘Everyone has the right to live.’ Mr Amit Shah will be take part in the 53-km padayatra in Kannur district on the first two days. “Amit Shah will join Kummanam towards the fag end of his yatra on September 23 from Sreekariyam to Putharikandam grounds where he will address a public programme. It was at Sreekariyam that RSS leader S. L. Rajesh was killed by the CPM workers recently,” said a top BJP leader.
The yatra will take a three-day break from September 11 to 13 coinciding with Sree Krishna Jayanti. The leadership claims that over a dozen BJP chief ministers and union ministers will join the yatra to capitalise on the political violence unleashed by the CPM. The BJP hopes to regain its image which was tainted by the medical college scam. Former BJP state president V. Muraleedharan, general convener of the yatra, has appointed 24 sub-committees for its smooth conduct. A team from Doordarshan News, New Delhi, led by senior journalist Manish Bajpai is touring the state to do a documentary in English and Hindi on the political violence. They will meet a cross-section of BJP/RSS, CPM and RMP leaders.
