Work begins on NLC solar power plant

Chennai: A Boomi pooja was performed for the establishment of the 65MW solar power plant in Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC), in Neyveli. In a function CMD, S.K. Acharya inaugurated the construction activities of a grid interactive of 65 MW solar plant (A/C) in Block-5, Neyveli.

In a release, the ‘Navratna’ public sector stated that the plant would be set up as part a of NLC India Ltd. plan to establish 4,000 MW solar power projects in various states under green initiatives, in line with the National Solar Mission of the Central Government.

The 65 MW Solar Power Plant would be constructed on 325 acres in Blocks 5 and 6 in NLC (200 acres) and in Kolliruppu village (125 acres) near, New Neyveli Thermal Power Project (NNTPP) in the northern side of Neyveli.

Approximately 2,38,600 solar photovoltaic modules (Solar Panels), each with the power generating capacity of 280/310 Watt will be installed in the plant. The power generated from this plant would be transmitted to the Tangedco, the sole beneficiary. Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited has been selected as contractor for the task of engineering, procurement and commissioning of the project.

Rakesh Kumar, Subir Das, V. Thangapandian, Selvakumar, Directors of NLC India Ltd., Executive Directors, Senior officials and employees of NLC India Ltd and M/S BHEL took part in the function.
