VIJAYAWADA: The medical wing of YSRC has refuted allegations that YSRC government is selling medical seats in government medical colleges illegally.
“In fact, after assuming charge, Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has gone on to decrease the medical fees charged by government medical colleges.” Dr. Mehboob Sheikh, Krishna, NTR and Guntur districts’ zonal in-charge of YSRC medical wing (YSRCMW) maintained.
Dr Sheik underlined that it was Nara Chandrababu Naidu, who initiated the policy of selling self-financing and NRI quota seats in AP’s government education system. So much so, NRIs paid ₹2–3 crore for each MBBS seat.
The YSRCMW zonal chief pointed out that after YSRC government has taken over, the fee for an NRI seat has been reduced to ₹50 lakh. The fee for each B category MBBS seat has been reduced from ₹13.5 lakh to ₹12 lakh. Similarly, the fee of category A medical PG seats has been reduced from ₹8 lakh to ₹4 lakh. The fee for category B seats has been reduced from ₹32 lakh to ₹16 lakh.
Dr Sheikh explained that in the five newly opened medical colleges, the fee has been fixed at ₹12 lakh for self-finance seats and ₹20 lakh for NRI quota seats.
He underlined that after taking over government, YSRC had also decided to open 17 new medical colleges at a total expenditure of ₹12,300 crores, five of which are starting from this academic year itself. He pointed out that 50 percent of these seats will be general category, 35 percent self-financed seats and 15 percent will be for NRIs.
The YSRCMW zonal chief said the fees of self-financing and NRI seats in medical colleges are being deposited in the account of AP Medical Education and Research Corporation, which will use the amount for development and maintenance of government medical colleges in the state.
