Rake in the moolah on others' fate

some others pursue it to make a living out of it.

Hyderabad: Astrology is proving to be a dependable source of income for many, these days. Even those offering part-time consultations (from their homes) are earning between Rs 25,000 to Rs 40,000 while others who are into this full time are earning in lakhs per month.

Dr N. Venkataiah, head of the Jyothisha and Vastu department at Telugu University stated that while majority join Astrology courses out of curiosity and to get knowledge about the subject, some others pursue it to make a living out of it.

“Engineers, IT professionals and architects are learning Jyothishyam and Vastu to relate it to their work that involves construction of buildings, new projects, building plans and the like. Doctors (mostly Ayurvedic and Homoeopathy doctors) are using this knowledge in their regular practice. This comprise 60 to 70 per cent,” he said.

Of the remaining 30 per cent, some are offering part-time consultations (with Rs 200 to Rs 500 as fees) at their residences either in the morning or evening. While others, some of whom do daily programmes on regional television channels and also offer full time consultations, are earning in lakhs per month.

Mr S. Jayaram, executive director of SP Software Limited stated that software professionals too were are showing interest in learning Astrology of late while some were even into teaching as guest lecturers at ICAS centres in the city.

“Students come from varied backgrounds and social status and we tell them to leave everything at the door along with their chappals. In class everyone is equal,” he said. Meanwhile, ex-IFS officer Mr M. Ramprasad lamented about the fact that some were using Astrology to deceive people and minting money.

“There are many positives about Astrology. However, some selfish people, who have not perfected the subject, are deceiving people in the name of special pujas to ward off evil and bad omen. This needs to be checked and people should be enlightened not to fall prey to such fake astrologers,” he said.
