KOZHIKODE: Over 50 charity organisations in the Gulf, especially in Oman and Qatar, are under the scanner of security agencies in the wake of the suspected recruitment of Muslim youths from the state to join the IS. Run by Malayalees, the majority of them are frontal organizations for new recruitment, it is suspected. Blood donation, food packets distribution and rescue of those in police custody are some of their regular activities.
Huge funds received by these organizations also are under the scanner. The agencies hinted that once the targets, who arrive on visit visas are attracted, they proceed with the work in the Gulf countries and in turn, help the centres in Malabar. They get regular job visas in return.
The agencies assume that over seven million Malayalees are stationed in West Asia which is more than in the official records. To avoid too much screenings, the people from Kerala are sent through Bengaluru airport, which is comparatively safer, the official added. The funds received by several charity organizations back home from these shadowy overseas entities also are under probe.
