Akshara Kairali scheme brings Deccan Chronicle to schools

Mr Biju K. Xavier said that the newspaper would implement such a scheme in all the Assembly constituencies across the state.

Thrissur: As a part of the ‘Akshara Kairali’ project in government schools in Kaipamagalam Assembly segment, Mr E.T. Taison Master MLA inaugurated a scheme to provide English newspapers to 13 government schools on Thursday. The state government had embarked on a plan to convert a government school in each Assembly segment to an international school like the one at GVHSS at Nadakkavu in Kozhikode, which has gained huge popularity, he said launching the scheme at Government Fisheries Vocational Higher Secondary School, Kaipamangalam, near here,

“The Government Fisheries Vocational Higher Secondary School may get selected for the scheme,” he said. “To create interest among the students for reading English newspapers, quiz competitions based on the news items will be held in the school and at panchayat level and awards will be distributed for the winners,” he added.

Mr Biju K. Xavier, general manager (marketing) of Deccan Chronicle, said that the newspaper would implement such a scheme in all the Assembly constituencies across the state. PTA president B.S. Sakthidharan, ward member P.T. Ramachandran, headmistress K.M. Anitha, principal O.A. Famitha, staff secretary K.B. Beena and senior teacher M.D. Santhosh were among those present.
