19 houses hit by sea erosion at Anchuthengu

A team under Chirayankeezhu Tehsildar Clement Joseph has stationed here and high wave scenario is likely to stay until.

THIRUVANANANTHAPURAM: Around two houses were totally destroyed and 17 others were partially destroyed during high waves at the sea erosion hit areas at Anchuthengu on Thursday. Around 62 families were shifted to relief camps opened at St Joseph’s School here. The houses belonging to Philomena and Yesudas were destroyed. Fish landing centres and houses also are under threat.

The sea erosion is at its worst at Thomikkadavu, panchayat office area, Community health centre area, Anjengo Fort and Velimukku. A team under Chirayankeezhu Tehsildar Clement Joseph has stationed here and high wave scenario is likely to stay until. “The sea erosion at Anchuthengu has only intensified with the construction of sea wall around Perumathura," said C. Roy, a local resident.
