KAKINADA: A 40-year-old fisherman Gedala Appa Rao, belonging to Kakinada, waged a grim struggle for life for 12 hours, swimming in the sea in Bay of Bengal and was rescued at last.

Appa Rao and other five crew went to Machilipatnam for fishing and later they came to harbour at Sakhinetipalli and sold the fish which they caught. On Tuesday afternoon, they again ventured into the sea. But the next morning, the crew of the boat noticed that Appa Rao was missing.

Meanwhile, some fishermen of Rajipeta village in Anakapalli mandal went fishing into the sea from Antarvedi harbour and found a fisherman struggling in the sea. They rescued Appa Rao and brought him to the shore. He was admitted in Government Hospital at Razole of B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema District.

Appa Rao told the other fishermen that when he was answering nature’s call, he felt drowsy and slipped into the sea due to huge waves on Tuesday night. Trying to save himself, Appa Rao swam in the water for nearly 12 hours before being rescued on Wednesday morning.

Appa Rao’s relatives thanked the fishermen who rescued him.
