Nizamabad turmeric takes the train to Bangladesh

Indian Railways is now competing for transport of goods and commodities

Hyderabad: In a first, a train from Nizamabad carrying 2,474 tonnes of turmeric in 42 wagons set off to Benapole, Bangladesh on Sunday. Traditionally, turmeric produced in Nizamabad and surrounding regions is transported by road to Bangladesh, a time-consuming and expensive process.

The commercial department of the Hyderabad division of South Central Railway (SCR) met with customers and encouraged them to use trains instead. Meanwhile, more freight customers are reportedly showing interest in increasing transportation of goods such as essentials and agricultural goods from the Nizamabad region to Bangladesh.
