Telangana poet and lyricist Guda Anjaiah passes away

Guda Anjaiah was a staunch supporter of T-movement.

Hyderabad: Renowned Telangana poet and lyricist Guda Anjaiah, passed away at his home in Ragannagudam, Hayatnagar on the city outskirts on Tuesday. He was 61. Anjaiah had been suffering from heart-related ailment and paralysis for quite some time.

Born in Lingapur village in Dandepally mandal of Adilabad district in 1955, Anjaiah was a prolific writer, singer and above-all a kind-hearted man of the masses who penned most of his lyrics on the oppressed and downtrodden sections of society. He was a staunch supporter of T-movement.

In his illustrious career spanning four decades, Anjaiah penned many songs including ‘Nenu Raanu Biddo Sarkaaru Davakhaanaku’, ‘Jara Bhadram Koduko, Koduko Komranna’, Pudithokkati Satthe Rendu Rajanna ori Rajanna.. Ethhura Telangana Jenda Rajiga ori Rajiga’ etc.

One of his songs Ooru Manadhira.. Ee Vaada Manadhira, was translated into 16 languages. His popular songs and books, including Polimera, a novel, were translated into several languages.

Anjaiah was discharged from NIMS a fortnight ago after a prolonged treatment but his condition started deteriorating in last couple of days and he breathed his last on Tuesday afternoon.

He is survived by three daughters, the youngest is yet to get married. Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao expressed shock over Anjaiah’s death and conveyed his condolences to the bereaved family.

Ministers Etela Rajender, T. Harish Rao and P. Mahender Reddy, MP K. Kavitha and TJAC leaders expressed grief over the demise of the popular son of the soil.
Family members brought his body to the Telangana Martyrs Memorial at Gun Park in the evening. Exactly five years ago, Telangana ideologue Prof. Jayashankar passed away on this same day.
