Chennai: Not only did Dheeneshwar. S of Namakkal district make his family proud by being the first graduate, but he certainly did make his village proud by being the first to join a medical college.

Hailing from Nalla Konalai village that saw mostly only agricultural workers, Dheeneshwar made a difference by ranking third and securing a seat at Madras Medical College, Chennai.

“Following the release of the MBBS rank list, the other villagers, who saw the news on the paper or television, came running to congratulate him and the family for being the first to get through to a medical college,” said his uncle, who had accompanied him for counseling on Tuesday.

“We live as a joint family. His father, K. Subramanian, is an agricultural worker and mother, S. Sasikala, a housewife. His parents were very proud to see their only child’s dreams come true,” added the uncle.

“I had expected more marks, but as I lost a few marks in English and Tamil, my percentage came crashing down,” added the ninth ranker, who was overjoyed at having got placed at Madras Medical College. “It is the best medical college in Tamil Nadu,” he added.
