KOZHIKODE: The CBSE students in Malabar region have performed well in the Plus-Two examinations, the results of which were announced on Saturday. Nearly 98 percent of CBSE schools secured 100 percent pass, according to the sources in Sahodaya School Complex and CBSE School Management Association.
The students in Kozhikode district did better than those of other centres. Four students of Silver Hills Public School scored above 90 percent and all the rest, above distinction. Six students of Bharathiya Vidya Bhavan School scored above 90 and the toppers’ percentage is 95. Around 15 students of Veda Vyasa Vidayalam got above 90 percent.
Nearly 90 percent of the schools in Kannur district passed and the toppers of majority of the schools came to 90 to 92 percent. “We have cent percent results in our school and the highest here is 96.2 percent. The lowest percentage is 56. This is a huge success for our school,” says Kalpana Jinedev, Vice-Principal of S.N. VidyaMandir.
While many students scored above 90 percent overall results, the number of students with 90 in every subject is comparatively low. Only a few schools have more than one student with full A-plus grade. Students got good results in subjects like biology, chemistry and English whereas only a few could do well in mathematics and physics.
In Malappuram district, Hill Top School, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Thirunavaya, Peevees Model School, MES College of Engineering Campus Higher Secondary School students put up a good show by securing 100 percent pass.
No short cut to success, says state topper
There are no short cuts to success, says Mehnaz Yunus, the topper in the CBSE class XII examination in the state. Mehnaz Yunus, 17, hailing from Kottooli is a student of Silver Hills Public School and has scored 494 marks out of 500, just one mark less than the national topper (495/500).
Mehnaz, who aspires to study computer science in any of the national institutions, has scored 100 marks in mathematics, 99 in chemistry, 99 in computer science and 98 in physics and English.
“I am waiting for the results of JEE- mains, which will be announced in July,” said Mehnaz. “Since I have scored good marks in the board exams, I expect a good rank in JEE too,” she added. “Everybody thinks there is a secret behind scoring high marks, but hard work is the only way to success. Unless you put your heart and mind into your studies, you won’t be able to do well. I thank God, my parents and my teachers who have helped me to study well,” she said.
Mehnaz who was in ICSE syllabus till tenth standard had scored 96.5 marks. Her father C. Yunus is an engineer in the Gulf and mother is Sajna Khader. She has two siblings, Azim Yunus and Hafiz Yunus, studying in 10th and 8th standards.
