Kochi: A.V. George, Ernakulam rural SP, under a cloud for the custodial death of S.R. Sreejith of Varappuzha, has been transferred to Thrissur police academy pending investigation in connection with the incident.
Rahul R Nair, Thrissur city police commissioner, has been given additional charge as the Aluva rural SP. The order was issued by the chief secretary.
The action against George was taken in the background of charges that the members of the Rural Tiger Force (RTF), the special squad formed by the rural SP, were responsible for manhandling Sreejith.
The three members of RTF involved in taking Sreejith into custody from his house on April 6 have already been arrested by the Special Investigation Team probing the case.
George declined to comment on his transfer but expressed his displeasure by making a sarcastic comment that more than four officials worked under him.
