MLA V T Balram slams river encroachment
KOZHIKODE: Soon after the ‘playground protection’ gathering by Drishya Kala Samithi, supported by the CPM on Thursday, the District Congress Committee on Friday administered an oath to protect the Karattu river bank in Vadakara from encroachment in the name of a playground. VT Balram MLA, who inaugurated the protest, said that the encroachment into the river bank, using women and children could be likened to the acts of the terrorists in Kashmir.
“The public conscience of the state, including Christians, is against the encroachment in Munnar in the name of the Cross. Similarly, the CPM should make it clear, whether their interest is in the encroachment of the river bank or the construction of the playground,” Balram said, while inaugurating the protest march on the banks of Karattu river.
DCC president T. Siddique administered the oath to the protesters, against the encroachment of the river bank. He said that the CPM move to destroy natural resources would be defended at any cost. Mr Siddique added that if the authorities did not take action against the encroachment, the protest would be strengthened.
