Vimal Jyothi college students also plan startup library, a first of its kind in state

KOZHIKODE: Taking a queue from the startup boom in the state, students of Vimal Jyothi Engineering College, Kannur, have launched a community of innovators called ‘VJ Inspire.’ They will provide space for student startups and give them all the backup and assistance. The community will launch its "innovative instigation of startup library," a first of its kind in the state, with a whole lot of collections of links, articles, books and individuals who can help them to start a business, which they say is entirely new to the concept of startups.

The startup library will start its functioning on Friday. “The major objective of this initiation is to mentor student startups within the college,” its principal consultant Thejus Joseph, director of Techjeeva Technologies Pvt. Ltd., said.

"Our community started functioning on Feb 7 with 15 startups. Now we have 28 groups waiting with their ideas." The community has also taken up the role of providing free services for filing patents and more than 35 patents have already been filed.

“The startups get sufficient guidance for filing patents, including searching and draughting. Student startups in Kerala can avail this facility for free irrespective of their college. In short, our primary objective is not just boosting startups, but help them to figure out their right career choice while still in college," Mr Joseph said.

The community is also providing a working space for the passed-out students from the college. The other features include startup accelerator that is a fixed-term and cohort-based programmes and unlimited and unblocked internet access.
