Breakwater project starts at Mulloor
Thiruvananthapuram: The construction of the breakwater project as part of Vizhinjam Seaport project has started at the port construction site at Mulloor.
Thiruvananthapuram-based Grand Four Group (GFG) is in charge of raw material supply for the breakwater project. GFG Managing Director Mr Noushad Khan said that the project was estimated to cost around Rs 1,600 crores.
GFG is the only company in Kerala which is directly designated by Adani ports Limited for any construction related to the port. GFG is a company with around 10 years of experience in breakwater construction projects and raw material supply. Strict safety measures were ensured during all stages of construction, said Mr Khan.
The breakwater construction included weakening the wave strength in the area by depositing hard rocks in an area of 3.5 kms. The rocks will be deposited at 10 metre width. As of now, necessary raw materials will be supplied from seven quarries. The construction will be strictly monitored by Project Site manager Mr. Sudhakar Ravu and expert engineers of Project Management Consultancy. The construction works were in full swing to complete the project within the deadline, Mr Khan said.
Adani Group, which is entrusted with the construction of the Vizhinjam port, had earlier made it clear that the breakwater could be built in 30 months once the work kicks off. The ‘L’ shaped structure of the breakwater is expected to withstand a 4.7-metre high wave and should have a 10-metre wide top road.
