Agra: To-be-brides in Agra have been making news for quite a long time. According to a report, two sisters in Agra’s Sikrara village called off their wedding as their respective groom were dark in complexion.
The girls - 15 and 16 years old - decided to cancel the wedding when they found out that their grooms had dark skin complexion and were older than them.
The minor girls were being married off forcefully to men who were 25 and 30-year-old respectively. The marriage was fixed after their mother sought advice from a self proclaimed godman.
The girls in an attempt to nullify the wedlock also threatened to call the police in case the grooms failed to give in to their decision. In spite of being prodded by the village council, the girls held their ground strong. The extended family of the minor girls showed immense support owing to which the marriage was finally called off.
In the recent past, a girl hailing from the same city called it quits on her marriage when she found that the groom’s house didn’t have a toilet.
