The virus had claimed 13 lives in the first three months of last year too. The highest number of deaths in a month, six, was recorded in November last year.

The total number of swine flu cases in the first three months of 2019 stood at 303, down from 420 last year. The three-year evaluation of the swine flu data shows that in 2017 the incidence peaked with 874 cases and 36 deaths, the highest so far.

Surveillance officials of the state health department stated that in 2018 the incidence reduced due to the immunity developed to the virus. This year, the changes in the virus in terms of mutation increased the burden of the disease and those who are immune compromised are not able to fight the new form of the virus.
