Kerala government moves Supreme Court against P Krishnadas

The High Court while granting bail for Krishnadas had observed that the abetment to murder charges will not stand against him.

Kochi: The state government on Tuesday approached the Supreme Court against the High Court order granting anticipatory bail to Nehru Group chairman P. Krishnadas who is an accused in the unnatural death of student Jishnu Pranoy. The state opposed the court order and argued that though there was evidence against Krishnadas, the court had ignored the same and granted him bail. The relatives of the victim had earlier petitioned Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and asked the state to move the apex court against the High Court order.

The High Court while granting bail for Krishnadas had observed that the abetment to murder charges will not stand against him. The court, meanwhile, adjourned the hearing to March 22 on the anticipatory bail petition filed by Krishnadas in connection with the case of assaulting a student of Nehru Academy of Law, Palakkad. It criticised the police on Tuesday also. The anticipatory bail plea of Krishnadas in the case is pending before the court.

Apprehending arrest, he had moved the court on Monday but the cops arrested him later in the day. Krishnadas’s counsel argued that the police had only incorporated bailable offences in the notice sent to him, but in an attempt to circumvent the bail order granted in the Jishnu Pranoy death case, the cops slapped non-bailable charges against him. Krishnadas argued that the case was an afterthought and manipulated by the investigation agency in the Jishnu Prony murder case. Though the petitioner had complied with the bail conditions, he was not questioned or asked to report before the investigation officer. The police were trying to sabotage the bail order passed by the High Court, he said.
