The project cost is Rs 25.5 lakh with a subsidy of Rs 3 lakhs and the beneficiary share of Rs 2.5 lakh.

Kozhikode: The Kozhikode Corporation Kudumbashree will start supplying Rs 20 drinking water cans by March end. Currently, 20-litre cans of private agencies are sold at Rs 50 to Rs 60. Once their water treatment plants are ready, the Kudumbashree will hit the market with Rs 20 a can, which costs them just Rs 10. During the first phase, Kudumbashree groups from Palayam and Elathur will establish water treatment plant at Kozhikode Corporation Old Office near Beach. Later they will come up near Elathur Industrial Estate and TB Clinic at Francis Road.

Two groups of five members each will run a plant drawing water from wells they dig under the project with the technical support of Dharana Infrastructure Projects, a firm working on affordable safe drinking water. Punjab National Bank was financing project. The project cost is Rs 25.5 lakh with a subsidy of Rs 3 lakhs and the beneficiary share of Rs 2.5 lakh. "The agreement on this will be signed next week,” Kudumbashree member secretary M.V. Ramsi Ismail said. “Once the repayment is over, we can give Rs 2 a can to the corporation which would be an additional income for them.”
