Kakinada should take up Smart City projects fast
Kakinada: Kakinada Smart City Corporation Limited is planning to immediately take up projects under the Smart City concept for the interests of the people. According to sources, the KSCCL is taking up major projects. But, this is not yielding good results.
There are several criticisms against the Smart City project saying that though the Union Government releasing crores in the form of funds for making Kakinada a Smart City, work has not yet been completed in the past two years.
The officials of Smart City conducted brainstorming sessions with Resident Welfare Associations, Slum Level Federations, NGOs, Chamber of Commerce, Youth Associations, Technical Experts and others. The Smart City Chief Executive Officer J. Sujay Arun said that representatives of various organisations identify projects that can be quickly implemented and give suggestions.
Several people who participated in the conference said that vacant spaces should be given out for public use.
They said that the main road starting at Two Town Center and going upto Jagannaickpur bridge was widened almost four years back. But, the space has not been utilised so far. They advised officials to develop the road for traffic movement.
The Resident Welfare Associations of Kakinada City President Y.D. Rama Rao suggested that vending zones should be set up for the convenience of vendors.
He suggested that roadside areas may be suitable vending zones and fruit vendors can sell their products out here. He also said that pig and dog menace should be solved with immediate effect.
He added that the Kakinada Municipal Corporation is having a lot of vacant sites and all these sites should be utilised by building walking tracks and children play area.
Many residents said that the Rail Over Bridge at Kondaihpalem should be completed in three to six months time instead of two years.
They said that due to non-completion of the bridge, the people are facing a lot of traffic problems in particular railway gates.
Few citizens adviced officials to make use of vacant places under flyovers and set up parking spaces out there.
Mr Arun said that all opinions and suggestions would be taken into consideration and a proper plan of action will be prepared after discussions are held with officials.
