Probe on against Kerala Law Academy Law College

The committee report would be placed before the syndicate on September 28.

Thiruvananthpuram: The higher education department began a probe into the issues at the Kerala Law Academy Law College on Saturday. Higher education principal secretary B. Sreenivas will probe the allegations against the college based on a letter submitted by Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

The Kerala University syndicate has approved the decision of the affiliation sub-committee to conduct a probe into the charges. The sub-committee would conduct a sitting at the college on January 23 and 24 when the students, parents and teachers can submit their complaints and records to it. The committee report would be placed before the syndicate on September 28.

The students had complained that Principal Lakhsmi Nair had used her discretion in awarding internal marks and attendance resulting in 21 students losing their academic year. They had also complained about the installation of CCTV cameras on the campus. The college was closed down indefinitely following a joint strike by the students’ unions following the suicide of engineering student Jishnu Pranoy in Thrissur recently.
