IIIT-Hyderabad professors bags young engineer award
Hyderabad: Dr Sushmee Badhulika, professor at IIIT-Hyderabad was presented the ‘Young Engineer Award’ by Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE) for her contribution in the field of flexible and wearable nano electronics and eco-friendly paper-based electronics.
Dr Badhulika’s research group at IITH has developed a low-cost, artificial electronic skin (e-skin) which suitable for use in acid attack and burns cases where a part of the skin is permanently damaged and loses functionality. The research group also focuses on developing electrochemical nano-sensors for food and water safety and nano-materials for supercapacitor applications.
Elaborating on her research, Dr Badhulika, said, “These devices are fabricated in a clean room free of pollutants without the use of any sophisticated equipment. Hence, they find wide use in applications where cost, resources and energy are limited.”
The award consists of a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh, a citation and recognition as an INAE Young Associate. The academy presents the award annually to young engineers working in academia, R&D laboratories and industry for their contributions in engineering.
