On BRTS road widening near Simhachalam issue taken up by TD

Visakhapatnam: Vizag district TD leaders went to the joint collector Vishwanath’s office on Monday and handed over the petition regarding Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) road widening near Simhachalam. TD leaders were accompanied by the affected families.

In this context, district president Palla Srinivasa Rao said, “We are demanding immediate justice for the affected families. TD will render its support to the affected families.”

The BRTS road widening at Simhachalam Corridor stretches a distance of about 2km. This is causing trouble to residents of the adjoining colonies.

From Simhachalam Old Goshala junction to Old Adavivaram Junction, the BRTS Simhachalam Corridor work has been halted.

These two corridors are majorly come under Gopalapatnam municipality.

Though maximum work has been completed at Pendurthi corridor, a part of the Simhachalam corridor remains unfinished.

The reasons for this incompleteness are many. Initially it was the compensation issue that delayed the project. This was followed by court litigation etc.

Approximately, over 50,000 people travel along this part of the BRTS road that stretches along the Simhachalam Devasthanam. Similarly, the route is also preferred by people residing in some 50 colonies abutting the road. A majority of them take this route on a daily basis.

Traffic bottlenecks are a common feature in this place. Recently, GVMC took up demolitions of several houses and structures on either side of the road in this two-km stretch. On this, the TD led the protests.

Former ministers Bandaru Satyanarayanamurthy and Kondru Murali Mohan, MLC Vepada Chiranjeevi, Telugu Desam south constituency in-charge Gandi Babji, district general secretary Pasharla Prasad, Bhimili in-charge Korada Rajababu, north constituency in-charge Chikka Vijay and GVMC floor leader Pila Srini were among those who met the joint collector.
