Kerala: Judge car brush, panel orders case
Kochi: The State Human Rights Commission has directed the district police chief to probe the ordeal of a six-member family, which was shunted between police stations following a minor brush with a judge’s car on Sunday. The Commission acting chairman, Mr P. Mohanadas, instructed the police chief to get the incident probed by a senior official and submit the probe within three weeks.
The incident occurred at Chirangara near Koratty in Thrissur around 9:30 on Sunday morning as the family was driving towards Kochi from Palakkad. The judge’s car overtook the family’s car from the left, according to Nidhin, who was in the car along his father Thomas, a kidney patient, mother Lissy, sister Neethu, wife Anju and two-year-old daughter Jovana According to reports, both the vehicles were in the same direction and when the judge’s car overtook from the wrong direction, it scraped Mr Nidhin’s car. The driver didn’t stop but had to halt at the traffic signal at Chirangara junction.
“Though a few two-wheeler riders and private bus crew questioned the judge’s car driver, he was rude and in no mood to offer an apology. The judge didn’t interfere”, said Mr Nidhin. Later, Mr Nidhin’s car was blocked by the Aluva police and sent the family to Chalakudy station from where they were sent to Koratty. The family could not leave the station till the police let them go. Finally they were let off without even a petty case. According to the police, the family was apprehended based on a complaint that they misbehaved with the judge.
