AP Speaker pays tributes to police personnel

Vishakhapatnam: Speaker Tammineni Sitaram on Saturday paid rich tributes to police personnel who laid down their lives in line of duty during the past year.

Addressing a meeting in Srikakulam on occasion of Police Martyrs’ Day as chief guest on Saturday, he observed that increasing cases of crime are burdening police personnel. He asked people to refrain from committing any crime, as such activities hinder developmental activities.

The speaker appreciated police for also coming to rescue of people during natural calamities like floods, cyclone and fire mishaps, risking their own lives. He assured that the state government will do its best in improving their lot.

Sitaram asked police personnel to keep themselves abreast of amendments in laws and take people into confidence while dealing with criminals.

Srikakulam district collector Srikesh Lathkar said the Martyrs’ Day reminds people of the selfless services rendered by police personnel.

Superintendent of police G. Radhika said people will always remember the five police personnel from the district – S. Bangaru Naidu, A. Papa Rao, M. Narendra Das, M. Venkataramana and P. Krishna Murthy – who died during the course of performing their duties.

She also paid tributes to nine police personnel who died this year. She assured their family members that government will extend all help to them.

The speaker also felicitated family members of the martyrs.
