Majestic bulls arrive from Haryana, Punjab for annual ‘Sadar’

HYDERABAD: Bulls from Haryana and Punjab that have been crowned ‘national champions’ arrived in the city for the Hyderabad Sadar that is held together with Diwali.

The seven-feet tall ‘Sri Krishan’ from Haryana, which weighs 1,800 kg, and ‘King’ from Punjab, weighing 1,600 kg and standing 6.5 feet, will be the cynosure of all eyes in the annual event organised by the local Yadav community.

Edla Hari Babu Yadav, state general secretary of the All India Yadav Mahasabha, who will be taking out these two bulls for procession, said “My family has been organising the procession for the last 15 years. This is one of the best processions in the state.”

He said that the best of bulls would be decorated and taken out in a procession a day after Diwali.
Venkatesh Yadav Maraboina from Khairatabad said, “We are six brothers. For every sadar, our bull is decorated and will be taken out for the procession. This year we are preparing for a grandiose procession, which will be accompanied by a DJ.”
Meanwhile, the Diwali mela at Kasturba Gandhi College for Women at Marredpally has been drawing friends and relatives of students in large numbers for the pre-Diwali bash.

According to Dr Anjali Mali, it features around 50 stalls selling food items, clothes, accessories and others.
MCom student Manisha G. Said, “the event is lively. Due to the participation of faculty members and students, it looked like it was Diwali.” She added, “the props and gift items made by students have been put on auction. The proceeds will be contributed to the right causes.”
Yusra Mohammed Ayub, MCom student, who had organised lucky draw and tombola, said “We had a great response. We sold around 200 tickets for each round.”

Students from Avinash College of Commerce in Himayatnagar, engaged themselves in the pre-Diwali programmes on Friday.

Omar, Mohammed Ishaq, Sanjana Sharma, Viplove Roda and Kashif recalled their mesmerizing experiences.

“We were all dressed in traditional attire and took part in the cultural events. The entire campus had a festive look and every one was soaked in the festive spirit,” they said.
