Govt doctors get nod for private practice

Only after official duty hours, says order; barred from setting up hospitals and diagnostic centres

HYDERABAD: The state government on Friday released an order allowing government doctors to practice privately after hospital hours.

The health department had on June 7 imposed a total ban on private practice by doctors who were newly hired through direct recruitment. The earlier order stated that the ban applied to doctors transferred from the non-teaching side.
Friday's order stated that doctors are permitted to engage in consultation practice after hospital hours and at the same time insisted that they work in the hospital during working hours. It said that doctors must practice only at the work headquarters and strictly after hospital hours.

The performance parameters for ensuring patient satisfaction levels and progress on national and state health care delivery goals would be constantly monitored individually and institution-wise, the government said. However, doctors have been prohibited from establishing hospitals, nursing homes, ultrasound scanning and diagnostic centres, dental clinics and physiotherapy centers.

Supervision, monitoring and evaluation and government doctor's private practice will be monitored vigilantly, the order said. The findings should be submitted to the competent authority for taking necessary action in case of violations or negligence of duty in hospitals.
