Vigilance to question K Babu in assets case
Kochi: The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) would again interrogate former excise minister K. Babu on Friday over disproportionate assets charges. This after the sleuths found him having close links with his alleged 'binami' Baburam, a real estate agent. “We’ve got telephone call records of the two indicating they were in frequent touch. Similarly, a copy of the letter written by Baburam to former home minister Ramesh Chennithala and former vigilance director Shanker Reddy in November requesting to drop the bar bribery case against Mr Babu was also recovered from the former’s house,” a senior officer said.
Mr Baburam had earlier denied having any connection with Mr Babu, and the latter too said he had met the real estate agent only a few times. The vigilance officials would also interrogate Mr Babu based on more documents and records of bank transactions seized last week. “A summons has been issued to Mr Babu to appear at out office at Pullepady, Kochi,” the officer said. The VACB had registered cases against Mr Babu, Mr Baburam and Mr Mohanan, a bakery outlet owner last month.
