Diesel shortage haunts KSRTC
KOZHIKODE: With diesel stocks running out and few steps taken to replenish it, KSRTC officials conduct only income generating services in the Malabar region.
Many schedules have been suspended due to lack of sufficient fuel, sources said. In Wayanad district, the diesel stock was sufficient to run essential services for one more day, officials said. For the last two weeks, KSRTC has been operating in such a way that major services are not affected.
“Normally in Kozhikode we used to have 30,000 litres diesel stock which has become less than 2000 liters. That is quite insufficient to fill even the vehicles operating from the depot,” said an official. “We expect one tanker with 12,000 litres on Friday morning. If it reaches in time we would be able to fill up the tanks of the buses from the depot while buses from other depots will have at least around 50 litres each”, he added.
However, with KSRTC distributing pensions to its employees today, it is likely that it will not be able to source funds to purchase diesel in the coming days, it was pointed out. However, KSRTC zonal officer A Zafarullah told DC that for the time being there was no problem. “We will have sufficient diesel for Friday and things will be better thereafter”, he added.
