TRS leader’s husband beats couple for land

Hyderabad: Police on Tuesday arrested S. Srinivas Reddy, husband of an MPTC member from the TRS from Pulimamidi, and his brother S Ramakrishna Reddy, for allegedly attackeing an elderly couple over a land row in Vikarabad district.

The duo had attacked the couple after they allegedly refused to sell their agricultural land to them, police said. Meanwhile, Chevella MLA Kale Yadaiah of the TRS visited the victims who are undergoing treatment at hospital.

Mominpet circle inspector M. Venkatesham said the Srinivas Reddy and Ramakrishna Reddy been remanded to judicial custody and further investigation was in progress. They were charged with attempt to murder, tresspassing and threatening the couple.

When the couple were in their field at Pulimamidi, Srinivas Reddy and Ramakrishna Reddy, who own the neighbouring agricultural field, started attacking them with sticks and stones. The couple sustained injuries and were first rushed to Vikarabad government hospital and then to Hyderabad for better treatment.

Inquiries revealed that there has been a dispute going on between both parties for a long time over encroaching into each others’ land and the issue is pending in the civil court at Vikarabad.

The victims also alleged that Srinivas Reddy and Ramakrishna Reddy had been forcing them to part with their land and offered a meagre amount. The couple said they had refused the offer, as a result of which they were facing harassment at their hands. On Monday, Srinivas Reddy and Ramakrishna Reddy took it to the next level and tried to kill them, the victims alleged.
