Hyderabad: AIMIM MLA Moazam Khan on Friday raised in State Legislative Assembly the issue of financial discrepancies in Minorities’ Residential Schools during zero hour.
Referring to the news published in Deccan Chronicle, the MIM MLA pointed out that Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao had started residential schools for minorities in 2015 with laudable intent.
Currently, the Telangana Minorities’ Educational Institutions Society (TMREIS) is running 12 junior colleges and 170 high schools with boarding facilities. About 90,000 students are studying there and TMREIS has spent Rs 925 crore in the past four years.
Moazam Khan, however, charged that though a governing body was constituted comprising officials from various departments, it has not held even a single meeting.
There was no audit of the expenditures incurred by TMREIS. Now, a news item has been published in an English newspaper highlighting the irregularities and corruption.
The MLA demanded that the government hold an inquiry into the utilisation of funds by various minority organisations, including the Wakf Board and Finance Corporation.
He maintained that he did not doubt the intent of the government, but there is a need to inquire into the irregularities committed by the various minority institutions.
Home Minister Mohammed Mahmood Ali assured the House that an inquiry would be conducted.
