Traffic cops don Yama Dharmaraju attire for road safety

The brain behind the innovative awareness programme was Mr G. Shankar Raju, Inspector, Sultan Bazaar police.

HYDERABAD: For the first time in the city, in an innovative way, wearing the attire of Yama Dharmaraju, traffic cops have conducted an awareness program at the Sultan Bazaar crossroads. It was highly appreciated by the citizens The brain behind the innovative awareness programme was Mr G. Shankar Raju, Inspector, Sultan Bazaar police. To understand the importance of the helmet practically and to spread the message about the dangers of helmet-less driving were part of the programme.

A traffic cop said, “We thought the apparel of Yama Dharmaraju from the Hindu mythology was the best way possible to communicate with the public. With the Yama, we warned the citizens that the persons who wanted to to live for 80 years are now dying at 30 in road accidents and because of helmet-less driving.” Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Shankar Raju said, “We distributed 17 helmets to the people who were driving without helmet. We got good response from the public. After this program I am hoping at least some will wear the helmet.”
