School bus wheel comes off, all 60 students safe

The right front wheel detached from the axle and the driver lost control of the bus.

Warangal: As many as 60 students had a miraculous escape on Thursday when the front bearing of the school bus they were travelling in broke while it was move.

The right front wheel detached from the axle and the driver lost control of the bus. The bus went off the road as the breaks too failed and came to a halt after crashing into a big boulder a few meters from the road. None of the students was injured but the driver received minor injuries.

The incident took place on the outskirts of Bodlada village in Danthalapalli mandal of Mahbubabad district when the students were on their way to the St Mary’s High School in Danthalapalli.

The locals rushed to the spot and helped the children out. They were taken to school on another bus. The driver was shifted to the Thorrur area hospital for treatment.

The bus was carrying 60 students as against its capacity of only 30. The parents of the children blamed that the school management has been negligent in maintaining its buses. They said the accident was caused because the bus was not in good condition.

“Even after their buses were out of order, the management did not bother to repair them. If the incident happened while the bus was moving on a culvert or a bridge, the result would have been disastrous. The RTA officials never come here to check the buses,” said a parent.

We do not even know if the school buses posses the required certificates to run. In addition, they are running the buses with double their capacity. The officials must immediately take action against the management for endangering the lives of so many children,” demanded T. Venkanna, a parent.

Danthalapalli sub-inspector Nandi Kumar visited the site of the accident and said they have initiated an investigation into the matter.
