Tanur coast sleepless over clashes
MALAPPURAM: In spite of a strong police presence headed by top officials, there is no peace in the coastal villages of Tanur. Late on Monday night, several houses and vehicles were vandalised and many attacked on Korman beach and Fakeerpalli following a minor dispute between two men in the area. The clashes were later taken up by rival political parties which worsened the situation.
The police who are camped in the tense area for past few weeks have rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. Mr K.P Rasik who sustained serious injuries in the attack was admitted to the District Hospital in Tirur. A case was registered in connection with the incident. According to the police the situation in these areas is still tense. The police team including a battalion from Malabar Special Police, Malappuram conducted a march in the area in order to bring calm.
“The police deployment is strong in coastal villages. There are four mobile patrolling units and striker forces besides continuous night raids throughout the area. Many have been arrested by the police on cases of rioting,” Mr C. Alavi, Circle Inspector of Tanur, said. The workers of Muslim League and CPM have been in a fighting mode for the past several months in the coastal villages despite many peace efforts by the district administration, police officials and various organisations.
